Winding Rivers has been meeting socially since the spring of 2013, and in the spring of 2014 began working toward forming the intentional community described here.
In 2014 and 2015, the group considered legal and financial models, membership structure, and desirable site characteristics. In Late Summer 2015, after establishing many group agreements, Winding Rivers has shifted its focus to site search and consolidation and growth of the membership base.
Depending on membership growth, we anticipate a decision on a site in late 2015 or early 2016, with move-in dates depending on the site selected and the amount of work needed on the site to convert it to our use.
How will Winding Rivers decide on a site?
Members involved in the development process make all decisions by consensus, but
site selection will be based on there being a critical mass of interest in a particular property. Members of the group who are working on the development team are constantly searching for possibilities and working up financial projections for what it would take to create an intentional community at a given site. Sites with promise are suggested to the rest of the membership to see how many households would be interested in living at that site. When enough members express interest in a property to make it financially viable, development work for that site will begin.
Winding Rivers is in the process of identifying sites to consider for the development. A list of desired characteristics of the property can be found on our site-description page, and properties under consideration are listed on our properties page. If you know of an available property that you think would be a great site for an intentional community (see site-description), please let us know!
